Dear Students,
University of Bordeaux is one of 8 European partners in the Erasmus+ program “Innovative Education & Training in Laser Inertial Fusion Energy (LaserFusion)”
LaserFusion aims to trigger the last year Bachelor, Master and PhD students, to enhance their studies and skills for employability in the scientific area of Laser Inertial Fusion Energy (IFE).
The program is starting now and will run for 3 years, focusing on 3 topics: i) Physics and technology of IFE including diagnostics (1st year), ii) Laser and laser-plasma sources technology developments (2nd year) iii) Computational simulations of IFE including materials (3rd year).
The very first event, an intensive education program (Summer School format) on plasma physics and technology for IFE, will be organized at Univ. Bordeaux from 15 to 25 July 2025:
Classes will start from the basic plasma physics processes to reach more advanced topics connected to laser-driven fusion, including laser-plasma diagnostics. The format include lectures, practical lessons on simulations and experiments, seminars given by experts from the 8 European partners. A draft pamphlet is attached to this message, where you can check the syllabus and preliminary agenda (under construction).
This program is open for 3 students from each partner (24 students in total), from last year of Bachelor to PhD.
Therefore, 3 students from Univ. Bordeaux are to be selected.
The selection will be made by the academics coordinating the program (João Santos, Dimitri Batani, Emmanuel d'Humières), in consultation with applicant students' supervisors or Bachelor/Master coordinators.
You can express your interest by writing an e-mail to both adresses joao.santos@u-bordeaux.fr and dimitri.batani@u-bordeaux.fr.
Please motivate your application and give information about your present educational status and plans, and for PhD students the topic of your thesis, year of thesis, and the name and contact of your supervisor(s).
We are welcoming applications until 23rd May 2025.
Best wishes,
